Americana's history began in 1957 as a family business that began operating as a stationery and bookstore.
Over the years, it has experienced sustainable growth, basing its success on three main pillars: differentiated and excellent service; customers, who are the center of the company's activity; and all employees who make Americana's growth and success possible.
Today it is one of the largest stationery stores in the country, operating as a retailer, wholesaler and distributor. It supplies not only the end customer but also stationery stores, toy stores, fine arts and DIY stores. It also supplies companies of the most varied areas and sizes in all their needs. It also works with public entities such as schools and municipalities.

Americana currently has 9 stores in the Leiria region, a Cash&Carry with over 2000 m² open to the general public, a sales team and an online store that caters to end customers, resellers and companies. The close relationship it has with its customers allows it to stay ahead of market trends, thus offering a personalized and differentiating experience.

1957
OPENING OF THE 1ST STORE
Manuel Pedro Sousa and Laura Santos Sousa opened the Americana - A Casa das Canetas store in January 1957 in the center of Leiria on the popularly known "Rua do lá vai um". It had only 4 employees.
1960
OPENING OF WAREHOUSE AND OFFICE
Americana becomes a warehouse and distributor of office supplies, stationery and books. It has 5 employees, all relatives of the founders.
1972
OPENING OF CASH&CARRY
Located in Telheiro (Leiria), this store was aimed at resale customers from all over the country.
1975
GROWTH
Opening of the 7th store. The company employs 36 people.
1988
EXPANSION
Between 1986 and 1988, Americana expanded its business areas to photography, music, tobacco, bookstore, toys, stationery, office furniture, repairs, etc. During this period, it had 148 employees and doubled its sales volume to 800 thousand contos.
1998
SME EXCELLENCE AWARD
After a period of strong growth, Americana specializes in Stationery, Bookstore and Office Supplies. It now has 113 employees and 13 stores.
